BirdMaster

The Birdmaster is a germanium treble booster.
It is based on historical circuits from the 60s, completed to improve their performances.
Two models feature tone presets.

BirdMaster - Bandeau produit

BirdMaster, treble boost

The BirdMaster, *** version.

Treble boosters were among the first solid state effects. Initially designed to give a brighter sound to the damped amps of that time, they gave birth to a new aesthetic : biting rythm patterns, staccato chorus lines or crystalline arpeggios …
Thus the Arbiter Rangemaster® coined the English sound of the sixties, and later the Screamin Bird® was one of the first major successes by Elektro Harmonix.

These circuits came back fashionable around 2010, and clones flourished, at all prices.
True to its approach, Guitar Poppa proposes the Birdmaster, a tradition bound stompbox, combining NOS transistors and contemporary developments with a reasonable price.

General features

Direct input without buffer and Truebypass switching, helping guitar-booster interaction.
3 treble boost presets (*** and OC75 version) :

— Master : high mids and treble boost to the english way.
— Bird : higher frequency filtering.
— Poppa’s : treble boost, plus a touch of bottom.
 Amplification by NOS germanium transistor.
High-level output, in phase with the input.

The Birdmaster works with a 6 to 18V DC supply, negative ground.
6V, the preamp can be overdriven, keeping a soft germanium tone.
9V, clear working without saturation. 12V and more, the dynamic is maximum.

Frequency response

BirdMaster - courbe de transfert du boost

Red, the frequency curve of each preset.
Computer-calculated for a volume control of the guitar to 4/5 of its course.

Orange, the Rangemaster® curve, and yellow the Screaming Bird® curve.
These reference curves are reproduced less than 1dB difference in their critical portions.

BirdMaster - Versions -3                      Basic                                                      ***                                                        OC75

Basic version

• Classic Rangemaster® tone, with a higher and in phase output signal.
• Only battery powered.

*** version

• Three presets : Master, Bird, and Poppa’s (treble boost + a slight bottom).
• 9V Battery or external power supply, 6 to 18V DC. (Negative at the center of the coax jack).
• An active filter eliminates hum and hiss from cheap power supplies.

3 tone sub-options available in each version

Clear : keen english tonality, with nervous dynamics.
Organic : more fluid texture, slight compression. Good to play note by note or chord lines.
Sunny : sharp, but warm. Good with bright amps, or if you like the texan high mids tone.

OC75 special version

This is a high quality Sunny *** version , featuring a NOS OC75 transistor.
The Philips / Mullard OC75 was fitted to some historical pedals before 1968. It combines a superb high-medium texture with a nervous and flexible dynamic.
For a few euros more, this booster will give sunshine to your guitars!
